NASO experience included in the Council of Europe study on good practices
The NASO good experience and long-standing practice in conducting annual forums for social service providers, teams, managers and social service specialists are included in the Council of Europe Awareness-raising on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Study that aims to contribute to the Council of Europe Disability Strategy 2017-2023.
The NASO experience and activities come into the category of successful examples of awareness-raising via policy and practice. Good practices in Belgium and Hungary are also mentioned.
Emphasis is placed on the NASO effective approach to bringing together state and local authorities, municipal and non-governmental social service providers, partner organisations, specialists and experts each year to discuss social services and policy issues, in particular disability issues. Attention is drawn to the NASO practice of working with all parties involved to address issues and problems formulated at annual forums.
The fact that the forums are not a one-off but are held each year and that they support and resume the discussion on disability-related topics, problems and policies by bringing together all relevant and responsible institutions and organisations working in the field is also a useful example of the European practice on developing and implementing disability policies.
Other good practices included in the study are from Canada, Slovenia, Northern Ireland, Finland, Latvia, UK.
