International training for learning and support assistants and social service specialists
An international training course for learning and support assistants and social service specialists working with children with disabilities was held in Gleisdorf, Austria, which was part of the IMAS project, coordinated by the Austrian disability-related organisation Chance B in partnership with five organisations from Austria, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Slovakia and Bulgaria.
The main project objective is to build a framework for the work, career and conditions of learning and support assistants helping children with disabilities in the partner countries to meet the requirements of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The training course was attended by five representatives of Agency for Social Development Vision, a partner organisation of the project.
Experts involved in the event were Franz Wolfmayer, ex-president of the European Association of Service Providers for Persons with Disabilities (EASPD), Richard Rieser, Director of London-based World of Inclusion Ltd, and Artemi Sakellariadis, Director of the Centre for Studies on Inclusive Education (CSIE). They shared their experience and discussed together with the participants their opinions on inclusive education-related topics in the context of Article 24 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The programme included alternative group activities implementation and a disability summer camp visit where pupils with SEN together with their assistants and pupils with no SEN could participate in group activities and outdoor activities.
Comments were made on the possibility of the project being built on through follow-up activities.
