NASO and ASA National Advisory Centre in Plovdiv
On 20 April 2017 another session of the National Advisory Centre, launched jointly by the Agency for Social Assistance and the National Alliance for Social Responsibility, was held at the Complex for Social Services to Children and Families, NASO representation in Plovdiv. Because of the predefined discussion topic on the development of social services and policies for children, the State Agency for Child Protection (SACP) joined the regular participants. The meeting was attended by a wide range of specialists, representatives of social service teams and institutions working in the field, including representatives of the municipalities of Plovdiv Region, Social Assistance Regional Directorates, Social Assistance Directorate, Child Protection Department, etc. The Agency for Social Assistance was represented by Ms Albena Topalova, Expert-in-Chief of Social Services for Children Department, and NASO representatives were some Board members and its president Mr Georgi Georgiev. Ms Zhivka Georgieva, Principal Inspector of Monitoring and Control Department, participated on behalf of the SACP. The meeting moderator was Ms Nedka Petkova, NASO representative for Plovdiv Region.
After responding to the questions brought up, the participants had the opportunity to ask further questions on social policies and services for children, which transformed the session into a thorough, wide-ranging and open discussion about the possible options and solutions to creative implementation of various documents in the daily practice of specialists working in this field. Proposals were formulated for future discussions on the Social Services Act, for the methodologies development of various services, especially those provided by day care centres, as well as for the operation of family-type accommodation centres, the issues related to working with teen mothers, the work in small municipalities, etc. In a typical way of NASO event organization, emphasis was placed on the need for active partnership between the institutions and all stakeholders involved in the implementation of policies and services for children. In this regard, the partnership between the institutions in Plovdiv Municipality was presented as an example of best practices, highlighting the significance of this type of cooperation for achieving higher efficiency in the work of all stakeholders.
At the end of the meeting the attendees expressed their satisfaction with the usefulness of the topic discussed and used the opportunity to ask additional questions which would be responded to within the follow-up activity of the National Advisory Centre.
