Workshop on “Emergency admission in Social Support Center as a service inside the service” in Burgas
On May 19, 2016 in Social Support Centre - Burgas a workshop on "Emergency admission to Social Support Center as a service inside the service. Current Emergency Admission position and necessity within provision of services for children at risk” was held. NASO representation for Burgas – Social Support Center, with the support of the municipality of Burgas, hosted and organized the exchange of experience. Social workers from Social Support Centers providing emergency admission services across the country, as well as representatives of NGOs, attended the meeting.
Ms Maya Kazandzjieva, Director of Sofial Activities, Healthcare and Sports Directorate at the Burgas Municipalities and Ms Elena Indzhova, Director of Child Protection Department welcomed the participants. NASO representative and Director of Social Support Center – Ms Maria Atanasova presented a SWOT analyses of Emergency Admission. Her report included a review of advantages and disadvantages of the service as it is provided at the moment, opportunities for service and child support improvement, as well as risks for service loss due to lack of legal regulations.
During the discussion, experts from the local structures of Ministry of Internal Affairs, Child Protection Department, and Regional Prosecutor's Office of Burgas firmly united around the opinion that the emergency admission as a social service is extremely important in providing protection for children at risk and ensuring its effective operation must be a high priority. The workshop participants made a joint conclusion on the competitive advantages of the emergency admission and ways for its improvement, as well as the need for legislative and methodological changes. NASO will summarize and submit those recommendations and suggestions to the attention of the responsible authorities for future consideration, as well as will make efforts to apply them during the work on the draft Law on Social Services, which is currently being developed.
