"Together for diversity, tolerance and non-discrimination" in Ruse
On May 19, 2016 in Ruse University "Angel Kanchev" a discussion on the problems of people with disabilities - a joint initiative of the Social Worker Club at Ruse University "Angel Kanchev", Healthcare and Social Activities Directorate of Ruse Municipality and National Alliance for social responsibility, was held. The discussion topic was "Together for diversity, tolerance and non-discrimination". Assoc. Prof. Alex Nunev, president of the Club and speaker of Public Health and Social Activities Department, moderated the meeting. Prof. Dr. Diana Antonova, Deputy Rector, Georgi Georgiev, NASO president and Ms. Mariela Licheva, Director of Healthcare and Social Activities Directorate of Ruse Municipality opened the meeting and welcomed the participants.
Within the presentational part, Ms. Licheva presented the social policy and social service development of Ruse. Assoc. Prof. Nunev focused on activities of the social studies students while members of the Social Worker Club at Ruse University presented production of club members. The Social Workers Club is a voluntary group of students and teachers from Social Studies Department of Ruse University. The group is driven by the desire to work together for better quality of education in social services, increasing the profession prestige of social worker and social work as an important element of social protection of the society.
During the active discussion following the presentations, the majority of participants shared different perspectives and identified good examples of tolerance and non-discrimination need and shared common understanding of people with disabilities as equal members of society that have abilities for equal participation.
