Social Service Advisory Center meeting
On February 11, 2016, the monthly Advisory Center meeting of social services implemented with the support of National Alliance for Social Responsibility (NASO) and the Agency for Social Assistance (ASA) took place. The topic of the discussion held was the work of Care homes for elderly people and the social services for elderly people in general. The questions to the ASA experts were mainly related to the problems in the work of the specialists and the services for elderly people, e.g. the issue on taxes that are to be paid by the users of social services. Suggestions for improvements were made also with regard to the changes in the Law on Social Support according to which the collection of taxes should be a responsibility of the local authorities. As an important issue was considered the work with the GPs as in some areas the communication with them was very difficult because some of them were refusing to visit the care homes. Recommendations regarding the introduction of new services for elderly people were made, and more specifically, in view of changing those services providing mainly medico-social care. Regarding the deinstitutionalization of elderly people and the demographic situation in Bulgaria, the integrated services would both enhance the funding system as well as the development of social services in general.
